Take a kid hunting on CRP land this fall

At any age, a rooster flushing makes the heart flutter as fast as the bird's beating wings.

August is going to be quite a month for landowners – and hunters!  The race to sign up acres for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) starts on Monday, August 2.  The more acres, the more habitat, the more pheasants and the more opportunities to get someone new into our hunting heritage.  For those of you who have hunted on CRP land, you know the thrill of a wild pheasant flushing from an expanse of native plants.  It doesn’t get much better for hunting.  As you dream about fall hunting season, please think about taking along a younger person or neophyte to share your hunt.  Watching that person enjoy the day, the land, and the experience may actually be more fun than what you bring home in your game vest.  Are you planning to take someone new hunting with you this fall? Let me know if you are and why.

What if no lets you on their land. When asking for permission all I receive is “no, but thanks for asking” and that is during the late season.
