Help the Birds this President’s Day

- Help stop more CRP acres from looking like this by contacting your elected official this President’s Day.
Washington, D.C.’s record-breaking snowstorm this week drove most Members of Congress home early for the traditional President’s Day work period. That means you have a great opportunity this week to reach out and help the birds get through the tough winter conditions we’ve faced over much of the pheasant range these last few months.
Coupling tough winters, spring floods, the extensive loss of Conservation Reserve program (CRP) acres, and we’ve got a perfect storm that WE CAN do something about. Your voice counts and I’m encouraging everyone concerned about the fate of local pheasant populations to ask your Members of Congress for help now.
Here’s How:
1) Attend one of the many local meetings next week and ask your elected official to help in securing critical habitat through new CP-38, or SAFE, CRP signups.
2) Ask for their help encouraging USDA to announce plans for a new general CRP signup with newly updated rental rates.
3) Ask about a new Farm Bill with strong CRP and conservation provisions.
Check out your local Senators’ and Representatives’ web sites at www.house.gov or www.senate.gov, or call their local offices and find out where you can attend meetings right now. Let me know your stories as you help us help the birds. Your voice will make a difference. Good luck and thanks for your help! Dave
