Retriever Training Tips: You Can’t Fix Stupid (And I Don’t Mean the Dog)
For as perfect as we want our dogs to be – and for as perfect as we think we are – we all have our moments of “brilliance” when it comes to dog training. For me, that moment happened last week.
While throwing retrieves for Beau, I managed to find one of the only trees in an open field and firmly planted a $29.00 Dokken Dummy 30 feet off the ground.
The dog wasn’t impressed. Neither was I.
You can’t fix stupid, but hopefully one of these days I’ll learn how to control it.
What’s your most boneheaded dog training moment?

I feel your pain. I’ve thrown a few bumpers that get stuck in the tree’s this year. Two bumpers are currently stuck on one branch. *sigh*
OMG …..THATS WAY FUNNY ….IVE MISSED A FEW BIRDS WHILE HUNTING AND MY OLDEST DOG PARKER TURNED AND LOOKED AT MOM LIKE WTH WAS THAT ABOUT ….DOGS ARE WAY FUNNY AND LOVE EVERY MINUTE !
Was out training my labs using my good duck calls when it hit me, I had to go use the rest room and bad! I took the calls off for a reason to this day I don’t know why. Put my calls on the back of the stool an went for a sit down, was about to finish up when I hear this sound and look down! It didn’t make my day when I had to go fishing! Training was OVER for the day!
When I got my current GSP, my wife gave her some stuffed animals. She carried these all over the house. When retreiving training started, she refused to p/u the training dummy. My wife suggested that I tell her to fetch her “Baby”. Well I did and it worked like a charm and she has been retreving pheasants and quail ever since !
