Over the last five days, I spent 34 hours inside the Pheasants Forever booth at the Northwest Sportshow in downtown Minneapolis. Along with fellow Pheasant Bloggers Anthony Hauck and Andrew Vavra, the PF crew signed up 236 members at the show. If you were one of those 236 people, or if you are one of the 125,000 members across the country – THANK YOU! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to convince everyone that stopped by the booth to join Pheasants Forever.
What follows are the top three lamest excuses used for not joining Pheasants Forever this weekend.
- “My wife won’t let me.”
- “I already belong to too many other organizations.”
- “You guys don’t promote releasing chicks. It’s always ‘habitat, habitat, habitat’ with you guys.”

If you make it down to the Minneapolis Convention Center this week for the Northwest Sportshow, please be sure to stop by the Pheasants Forever booth and visit the Pheasant Blogging Crew along with some of our friends from FAN Outdoors. We’d all love to meet you and talk birds, dogs, gear and shotguns.
We’ll have some special membership offers to help make the decision to join Pheasants Forever an easy one, so bring along $35 or a checkbook. Come on, you know it’s the right thing to do and we need you to join the fold. There are 2 million pheasant hunters out there and only 120,000 have made the commitment to conservation through Pheasants Forever. Are you one of the 1.9 million riding along on the volunteer efforts of others?
I’m also personally excited about meeting SpongeBob SquarePants . . . huh? Apparently, SpongeBob will be visiting the show this year to shake hands and kiss babies. Not sure what SpongeBob has to do with the outdoors, but if it gets the kids interested in the outdoors, what the heck. Maybe we can even convince Mr. SquarePants to do a Storm Report with us about his favorite fishing memories. Yeah, stay tuned for that one.
If I’m not at the Pheasants Forever booth when you stop by, you’ll be able to find me at the collectible fishing lure display located at booth 1330. I’m a sucker for old collectible lures like the Lazy Ike, Tin Liz, Pal-O-Mine, and my personal favorite, the Jitterbug.
“Captain” Billy Hildebrand and “Cold Front” Mike Kurre will join us for a live FAN Outdoors radio broadcast on Saturday from 2 to 3:30, so be sure to check that out as well.
See you at the Sportshow!
